Manipur
The picturesque State of Manipe has nearly
90% of its total land area hilly and under forest cover. The
meitis are Vaishnavite Hindus and live plains, while over two
dozen different tribe’s live in hills and profess Christianity.
Manipur became a State in March 1972. The Capital is Imphal.

are held here. The places worth visiting here are the State
Museum famous for ancient historical relics, war implements,
costumes and other art objects, Kelbul Lamjao, the National
Park, famous for its floating island sanctuary and the rare
brown antlered deer. Ukhrul, 70 km. north east of Imphal and
a popular hill resort and Logtak Lake, a great attraction for
naturalists, ornithologists, angler and boating enthusiasts.
Imphal is linked with Guwahati, Silchar and Calcutta by air
Dimapur is the nearest railhead. There are regular buses for
Imphal from Dimapur run by Manipur State Transport Corporation.
